Voci Nove at Ballymaloe Grainstore/ 8th May
Voci Nuove , a twenty-four person mixed-voice chamber choir based in Cork, make their Ballymaloe Grainstore debut on Thursday 8 May at 8pm.
In Spring 2013 the choir completed their first series of concerts in Cork, Ennis, and Galway entitled ‘Pitches be Crazy’. Inspired by the tremendous reception received, the group began competing, winning several categories at Cork’s Feis Maitiu. They were awarded second place in the Sacred and Chamber choir categories at the Cork International Choral Festival, and also won the John Mannion Perpetual Trophy.
In October 2013 the choir competed at the City of Derry’s Inaugural International Choral Festival where they were awarded first prize in both the International category and National Sacred Music category.
In November 2013, Voci Nuove travelled to Vienna for their first choral exchange, hosted by Amerlingchor. The group has worked closely with The King’s Singers and recently, with San Francisco-based choir Chanticleer who ended their European Tour in Cork this February at the Opera House, where they opened the show.
You may have caught Voci Nuove recently on RTE’s Today Show where they performed for the Valentine’s Day celebrations. They are currently preparing for their 2014 Spring Concert Series and will be competing in the Fleischmann International Competition and at the Cork International Choral Festival in May.
